Despite Freezing Temperatures SHOT Show® Media Day at the Range™ Successfully

Kicks Off 2013

February 4, 2013

In its eighth year, the 2013 SHOT Show® Media Day at the Range™, held on the day prior to SHOT Show, was attended by over 1,200 members of the media. With over 140 manufacturers exhibiting, Media Day is the largest hands-on media event in the hunting and shooting industry giving outdoor media the opportunity to shoot and test new products for 2013. Attending manufacturers get a jump on their competition with early media exposure, highlighting their products for print, broadcast and internet coverage.

Exhibiting opportunities are open to all in the hunting and shooting industry members; manufacturers, conservation groups and shooting organizations are welcomed on a first-come, first-served basis. This year’s exhibiting companies featured firearms, tactical clothing, knife throwing, off-road vehicles and more. Media Day also included an expanded area that allowed the media to test archery products, participate in knife throwing and fire fully automatic firearms.

"This year's split-session format came in response to exhibitor and media feedback that smaller groups would allow for more quality one-on-one time," said Chris Dolnack, NSSF Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer.  "Despite the frigid temperatures, we were very pleased with the results of SHOT Show Media Day at the Range, and we're looking forward to working with CMG Marketing & Events and Triple Curl PR & Advertising to help make the 2014 event even better."

In conjunction with NSSF efforts, Media Day at the Range continues to put safety at the forefront of the event. The second annual Action Target Media Day Safety Award was presented to EOTech for demonstrating the highest standards of safety during Media Day at the Range.

“This year’s Media Day at the Range was perhaps the most efficient and safe to date,” said Mark Keefe, Editor-In-Chief of American Rifleman.  “The two-tiered system allowed my staff to do their jobs and make effective use of our time and resources. We were able to access key industry leaders and actually shoot their new products without having to wait in interminably long lines, resulting in an increased coverage level for our industry partners. We were able to accomplish more in one morning than we did the entire day last year.”

According to Dean Capuano, Director of Communications at Swarovski Optik North America, “This year’s event really allowed us to have the one-on-one time with all the writers and guests. It is a great way to start of the year and begin our marketing program.”

Show management expressed a special thank you to Media Day’s presenting sponsor, NSSF, as well to its supporting sponsors and partners.  “Their support helps make this day the success that it is,” stated Cathy Williams, president of CMG Marketing and Events. “We welcome all of our 2013 sponsors and exhibitors, as well as prospective new participants, to be part of the 2014 event.”

Next year’s SHOT Show® Media Day at the Range™ will be held January 13, 2014.
